Poem: First Born

You were my first born

My blue-eyed son

A lifetime ago

Where are you now?

You were my true north

Son of my right hand

A lifetime ago

Where are you now?

You were my first joy

Son of the South

A lifetime ago

Where are you now?

You were my own pride

Youngest of Jacob

A lifetime ago

Where are you now?

You were my rock

Son of my sorrow

A lifetime ago

Where are you now?

You were my future

Love of my soul

A lifetime ago

Where are you now?

How did I wrong you?

Brave son of my loins

A lifetime ago

Where are you now?

You daddy is calling

Cross the green pasture

A lifetime ago

Where are you now?

So come home quickly

Time it has passed

A lifetime ago

Where are you now?

Poem: Battleground

You tore my innocence

Away from me

You took my health

And future too

You took my body

Left it scarred

You killed my closest

Cried tears of grief

You stole my love

And threw back hate

You captured my children

Then twisted the truth

You took my trust

Lied and cheated

You grabbed my home

And made me poor

You hit me hard

Left me bleeding

You gave me a battle

And still I’m fighting
